Buncrana is Donegal's second largest town, and the largest town in Inishowen. The hub of nightlife in Inishowen as well as a town with heritage and history, sandy beaches on the banks of Lough Swilly, and the main town for shopping in Inishowen, there's plenty to keep you entertained whether you're travelling with a young family or old friends.

Buncrana is the gateway town to the Wild Atlantic Way on the northern leg of the adventure, to Malin Head, and is the ideal hub for your visit to Inishowen.

With two golf courses, plenty of bars and restaurants, numerous heritage walks and trails, and easy access to all parts of Inishowen, you'll find a warm welcome with lots of local advice to keep you busy.

There are lots of activities all year round from outdoor cinema events to local summer festivals to St Patrick's Day and Christmas parades and much, much more. The average price of a pint is only €4.20 around the town, and shopping and bars are within walking distance from anywhere in town.

Here, you'll find the historic Swan Park on the banks of the Crana River, rich with salmon and other wildlife, with licences available to fish locally. At the entrance to the park is also O'Doherty's Keep, a building over 600 years old and former Norman castle, which became a prison throughout the centuries.

The Keep's famous inhabitants included rescued sailors from the sinking of the Spanish Armada vessel, La Trinidad Valencera, and later to Wolfe Tone, the leader of the 1798 uprising against the English.
